Источниковедение и историография Центральной Азии Historiography of Central Asia Detlev Quintern (Fuat Sezgin Foundation, Istanbul) Alexander von Humboldt and his Arabic Sources During his research trip in Central Asia in 1829 Alexander von Humboldt compared geographic locations determined by himself, with Arabic coordinates calculated by Abū al-Fidā ʾ (1273–1331) around 500 years ago. Not only Arabic sources, accessible to him in various European languages, were of great importance for orientating himself in the geography of CentralAsia, but far beyond this,Alexander von Humboldt acknowledgedArabic Sciences as forerunners of modern approaches in a number of scientific disciplines. Thus, he contradicted the Renaissance model which tended to marginalize the Arabic contributions to the history of sciences. Gözde Sazak (Institute of Turcology, Istanbul University) From the First Gender Studies Archive in Central Asia: Pendant on the Hun Khatun’s Temple As the famous historian Z. V Togan asserts 1 , concrete materials are of great importance in history for their role in determining and endorsing written sources. These tangible materials are for the most part appear to be archeological artifacts or monumental buildings. Cognitive anthropology and cognitive psychology enables us to analyze the metaphysical background of these archeological artifacts through examination of motifs and symbols of the period along with the culture they belong to.
