Источниковедение и историография Китая к 150-летию академика В. В. Бартольда (1869–1930). Ч. 2 47 far-reaching consequences on sinology of France. French sinologists of the later generations generally had good relationship with their Chinese colleagues, and this positive relations have been maintained till the present day. In the first days of his acquisition of the Dunhuang manuscripts and during his subsequent expedition, Pelliot began studying the manuscripts which he deemed important. And after he had shown these manuscripts to the Chinese scholars, they naturally engaged in discussions about the contents of these documents. Consequently, some insights from Chinese scholars were incorporated into the early works of Pelliot on Dunhuang manuscripts. Yet, it is also true that early Chinese works in the same field benefitted from such discussions with Pelliot no less than they did from Pelliot’s presentation of manuscripts. The absence of modern academic standards and sometimes imprecise dates of early publications made it hard to determine the first scholar to propose a certain idea. In any event, the works by Pelliot and the Chinese scholars who were his contemporaries were among the first results of Dunhuang Studies in the world. Luo Zhenyu, after Pelliot had shown him the Dunhuang manuscripts, promptly reported this discovery to Japanese scholars, such as Neito Torajiro and Kano Naoki in Kyoto, who began the Dunhuang Studies in Japan. Therefore, one can conclude that Dunhuang Studies, initiated collectively by Pelliot and his Chinese contemporaries, were from their very birth an international endeavor. Polina I. Thus, they are also reflected in the school textbooks of the coun- tries involved in this discussion. Most often, in school education, the topic of Japanese military aggression serves the task of shaping attitudes toward 1 The reported study was funded by RFBR and DFG according to the research project №  17–21–49001 (“Chinese perceptions of Russia and the West during the 20th century: changes, continuities and contingencies”).
