The Chinese biographical data compilation and research
in the 20
th
Century
In the 20
th
century, China has experienced great change almost in every social
aspect. Great amounts of famous historical figures in China emerged during the past
revolutionary age. Thus, both the Chinese scholars and their counterparts should
have the responsibility to collect their biographical data and do some research
respectively. The Chinese academic circles after 28 years of hard work have finished
about 58000 historical figures’ biographies during the past 48 years, and compiled
four books bibliography officially published. All of these figures’ data is now being
incorporated into full text database.
This database will include various aspects of modern history, such as politics,
economy, military, thoughts, culture and education, literature and art, science and
technology, business and so on. This project has successfully achieved the sponsor-
ship of the Chinese National Social Science Fund in 2010. To enrich this biographi-
cal collection and research, members of the research team plan to go to the United
States, Japan, Russia, Singapore and other countries to collect the above historical
figures’ biographical data.
Finally, we are looking for international partners who will participate in the
project.
