Serkan Gul (Bozok University, Yozgat, Turkey) History of Cevdet Pasha as a Source for the History of Ottoman-Russian Relations between 1774 and 1826 AhmedCevdet Pasha (1822–1895) was one of themost distinguished and productive personalities of the Ottoman bureaucracy and administration in the 19 th Century. He occupied many significant positions as scholar, jurist, advisor, governor and state minister. In addition to his duties, he became one of the most prominent members of the Ottoman historical school. He was appointed as the official historian of the Ottoman palace ( vak’anüvis ) in 1855. His extensivework called Tarih-i Cevdet (History of Cevdet Pasha) can be described as one of the best-known and most-used works of the Ottoman historiography. This work was published between 1854 and 1884 in twelve volumes. It encompasses the history of theOttomanEmpire from1774 to 1826, and extensively relies on archival sources as well as on chronicles of other Ottoman historians, ambassadorial reports and personal accounts. Cevdet Pasha’s comparative and analytical approach makes his history a valuable and noteworthy source for the Ottoman history. The present study is dealing with the Ottoman-Russian relations as presented and analyzed in Tarih-i Cevdet . In the period in question, Russia was considered as the principal enemy of the Ottoman Empire. Such attitude towards Russia played a decisive role in shaping the Ottoman foreign policy at that time. In his work, Cevdet Pasha gives detailed and interesting information on the Ottoman-Russian relations. This study will analyze Tarih-i Cevdet from the point of view of main problems between the Ottoman Empire and Russia, the Ottoman conception and perception of Russia, etc. Thus it is aimed at introducing Tarih-i Cevdet as a major source for the history of Ottoman-Russian relations in the late 18 th  — early 19 th centuries. Taha N. Karaca (Bozok University, Yozgat, Turkey) Ibrahim Effendi of Pecuy and the significance of his work in terms of ottoman historiograghy Ibrahim Effendi was born in 1572 in Pecuy, named originally Pecs, that is now in Hungary. Due to the town’s name, Ibrahim Effendi was called “from Pecuy/Pecs” (in Turkish ‘Pecevi’). He gave us some information about his life and family in his work
