It became clear, that the economic and educational side effects of the process of globalization have an increasing impact on minority communities, which could lead to their inability to protect their own linguistic identity. Despite all differences in the economic and political systems, the multicultural and multilingual entities, such as the European Union or Russian Federation, have a lingua franca , which affects the minority languages, even though the latter have a legal right to use their local language in the everyday life. In practical terms, such local languages often fail to maintain their relevance in front of the dominant language, since their communication function reduces drastically. This is also true as regards Turkic Languages with few speakers. The paper intends to assess the main problems faced by these Turkic ‘endangered languages’, as well as to determine possible ways to preserve them and ensure their competitiveness in front of ongoing standardization and globalization in all areas of life.
